Questions and Answers

Q: What is Suffragette and the City?

A: SatC is a non-partisan political campaign to get single women to vote in the national election on November 2, 2004. It was started by Amy of DatingAmy.com and is partnered with Rock the Vote.

Q: Why is this just limited to single women?

A: SatC is focusing on single women because they are the biggest group that doesn't vote. According to API, 16 million never-married, divorced or widowed women aren't even registered and the 22 million who are registered opted not to vote in the 2000 presidential election. If single women had voted in the same proportion as married women, there would have been 6 million more votes cast, 202,640 of them in Florida, which Bush won by a 537-vote margin.

Q: Is SatC a non-profit organization?

A: SatC is licensed and registered with the State of Washington as a non-partisan, for-profit association. By the time it would qualify for non-profit, tax-exampt status, the election will be over.

Q: How can I donate money to SatC?

A: You can donate to SaTC through PayPal:
or send checks or money orders made out to Suffragette and the City to: PO Box 9694 Seattle, WA 98109.

Q: What will my money be used for?

A: Administration, fundraising staff, a street team, marketing materials and two fundraising events.

Q: How else can I help?

A: You can help me get the word out by sending around my Suffragette page (http://www.datingamy.com/suffragettecity.html). Studies are showing that people tend to feel disconnected from the celebrities who are trying to get them to vote, so regular people getting the word out carries the most weight.
